Anxiety Q & A

When should I consider an alternative anxiety treatment?

Anxiety is famously hard to treat. People who have severe long-term anxiety can experience significant changes in their brains, and this may amplify their anxious responses and make the situation much worse.

While antianxiety drugs and antidepressants can help lower the “stress” hormones like cortisol in your brain, they don’t always tame anxiety. Similarly, psychotherapy can be helpful for some but doesn’t always work.

If you’ve tried the traditional approaches and anxiety just won’t leave you in peace, you could be a good candidate for nonpharma, noninvasive Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT). This therapy works to repair the brain, focusing on the disrupted areas that may be causing your anxiety.

What is MeRT for anxiety?

MeRT is a highly customized method of treating anxiety at the root of your brain. There are three main steps in therapy, including safe, noninvasive testing.

Testing includes a brainwave recording, a 10-minute test in which advanced equipment takes a picture of your brain’s network behavior. This test establishes a baseline and helps the team determine what parts of your brain are experiencing disruptions.

You will also have an electrocardiogram (EKG) to assess brain-heart interactions.

Consultation

Your consultation (online or in person) involves a review of your EEG results. This detailed analysis of your brainwaves pinpoints the factors that are disrupting brain health and causing your anxiety.

Personalized treatment

Treatment uses repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) to deliver harmless magnetic waves directly to the part of your brain where you have disruptions and connectivity issues.

This stimulates your neurons and improves brainwave activity, ultimately restoring the ideal brain balance and alleviating your symptoms of anxiety.

Traditional rTMS is a one size fits all treatment is the same treatment protocol for everyone. MeRT (Magnetic EEG-Guided Resonance Therapy) uses rTMS technology, but it’s highly customized according to your brain’s specific needs.

What can I expect from anxiety treatment?

MeRT can lead to clinical improvements for people with anxiety. After treatment, many people have reduced their feelings of anxiety, along with experiencing benefits such as:

  • Better sleep
  • Better focus and concentration
  • Improved motivation
  • More enjoyable socialization
  • Improved ability to adapt to change
  • Increased emotional stability
